The city of Lübeck offers a wide variety of social activities.
Being surrounded by water and having the Baltic Coast very close, all kinds of water sports are very popular among its inhabitants and guests. Get a canoe or a SUP and take a tour around the island-shaped oldtown or enjoy the nature along the river Wakenitz. You can go swimming indoor or outdoor (in pools or in nature), learn how to sail or enjoy a relaxing boat tour. The flat surrounding is also perfect for short or longer bike and hiking tours.
Do you want to join a sport group? No matter if you want to play soccer, handball, tennis, if you wnat to go horse riding or kick-boxing, you can take part in the wide offer of the University sports. Furthermore there are numerous sports clubs in Lübeck welcome you to join them.
Are you more interest in culture? Museums and galleries in Lübeck invite you to learn more about the history of the city and the Hanse league, about the city’s three Nobel Prize winners and local artists or about the landscape. Go and see a play at the different types of theatres or listen to a concert.
Lübeck is called the City of the Seven Spires for a reason: visit one of the six churches in the city center and enjoy the 360° degree view of the city from the top of St. Peter's 50 metre-high viewing platform.
Throughout the year, people enjoy several events in Lübeck and Travemünde.
THE highlight of the year is the popular Christmas Market. Have a browse through the decorated streets of the city center and stroll along the stalls offering mulled wine, delicious sausages, roasted chestnuts and herbal sweets.
Every year in November, the Nordic Film Days invite film enthusiasts to explore films from the Scandinavian and Baltic countries as well as from North Germany. For shopping lovers, the small shops in the Hüxstraße and Fleischhauerstraße invite you to explore their arts and crafts products. Bigger department stores and international brands are available in Königsstraße and Breite Straße or in the two shopping malls Citti Park and LUV center, located in the outskirts of Lübeck. Both can be easily reached by public transportation.
