Studying abroad is of course also a financial question: how much does it cost? How can I cover the expenses?

Proof of sufficient funds[]

You need a proof of sufficient funds in order to get a visa. Therefore, it is not only a personal question how to cover your stay in Lübeck, but also a necessary requirement.

Proof of sufficient funds can be provided by:

proof of sufficient income and/ or asset situation of the parents or
a formal declaration to the Aliens’ Authority or diplomatic mission stating that the living expenses will be covered for the foreign student or
payment of a security deposit to a blocked account in Germany or
deposit of a bank guarantee from a financial institution in the federal territory, which must be renewed each year, or
scholarships from German public funds or scholarships from a sponsorship organization accredited in Germany or scholarships from public funds of the country of origin if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst DAAD or another German organization funding the scholarship has made the referral to the German university.

Notice

Please beware that not all options for providing proof of sufficient funds will be accepted in all cases. Often, the authorities insist on opening a blocked account and on the payment of the corresponding security deposit.

-In Deutschland besteht die Pflicht, eine monatliche Abgabe (Rundfunkbeitrag) in Höhe von 17,50€ pro Wohnung an die GEZ zu zahlen. Wenn Sie also in einer WG wohnen, können Sie sich den Rundfunkbeitrag teilen.

-Sie müssen sich bei einer deutschen Krankenversicherung pflichtversichern. Der Betrag liegt ungefähr bei 110 € pro Monat.
-Für Ihre monatlichen Lebenshaltungskosten in Lübeck sollten Sie also mit mindestens 800 € rechnen.
-Die Technische Hochschule Lübeck erhebt keine Studiengebühren, sondern nur einen Semesterbeitrag in Höhe von derzeit 257,70 €. Darin enthalten ist ein Ticket für den öffentlichen Nahverkehr, welches in ganz Schleswig-Holstein und in Hamburg für den HVV AB Tarifbereich gilt.

-Es gibt verschiedene Stipendien in Deutschland, die auch an internationale Studierende vergeben werden. Diese reichen von 300 € pro Monat (Deutschlandstipendium) bis ca. 1000€ pro Monat (Begabtenförderwerke). Voraussetzungen sind in der Regel sehr gute Noten und ehrenamtliches Engagement. Es gibt keine Garantie, ein Stipendium zu bekommen! Am besten lassen Sie sich bei der Suche durch eine Datenbank (z.B. DAAD-Stipendiendatenbank, Stipendienlotse) sowie durch Frau Prüss (Studentenwerk) und Jasmin Sponholz (Career Development) unterstützen. Entscheidend bei einer Bewerbung um ein Stipendium ist die Bewerbung. Dabei hilft Ihnen das Career Development.
